Six Months Checkup after Liver Transplant

I was invited to come for a 6th month checkup at the Charite Hospital in Berlin. This was scheduled for 17th November 2015. Since I left the hospital on the 19th May 2015 I went for regular blood tests, every 6 weeks at my home doctor in Ketzin.

When I arrived I was scheduled for several checkups during the day. I started of with a blood test. Then a scan of the liver and a physical body check. It was followed by an X-ray checkup of my longs and then a bone density check later in the day. The blood test results will be known later in the day. I returned to the LTX transplant office to spoke to the doctor and get a letter for my house doctor. He informed that they have found two dark marks on the X-ray of my longs and I should return on the 24th November for a further checkup of my longs.

They were still waiting for my blood results from the lab but the other checkups were satisfactory.

I returned on the 23th November and was informed to report at the day clinic for a checkup. There they told me that they have seen the results of the X-ray and the CT-scan of my longs and need to make a biopsy of the longs. This showed them that there is a two dark marks on my left long. They will do the biopsy and after the procedure is complete I will be able to go home again.

They will carry out two procedures. This procedure is called a Bronchoscopy (endoscope of the airways). Since I am here for this procedure they will also do a biopsy of my liver. They normally do it with a needle on the side of the body but because of the risk of bleeding they decided to do another way.

They will do it through a big vain directly to the liver. Since my transplant my Gamma values remained high. They just wanted to check my liver as well. The results were known on the 19th November 2015. The biopsy of the long turned out to be all good and nothing to worry about. Praise the Lord. When they did the procedure through the vain they found that there was a blockage and they opened it up and took a biopsy of the liver. This test was also good. All the blood results were also in limits and the medication remains the same. The next blood test showed the gamma values much lower than before. Praise God. The doctor in the picture on the left was the surgeon, dr. Robert Sucher. The doctors and nurses on the picture to the right were part of the team.

Dr. Robert Sucher sent us an email with the following, after we sent him our testimony:
Der Geist der Medizin ist leicht zu erfassen, ihr durchstudiert die groß und kleine Welt um es am Ende gehn zu lassen wie es Gott gefällt . . .
(The spirit of medicine is easy to grasp, you study the big and small world to let it go in the end as God pleases. . .)
God bless you,
Best regards,
Robert
