The Day the Food Multiplied

Every time when we went on holiday, doesn't matter where we went, we always use that as a platform to minister to people. We've been to Taiwan, Hong Kong, UK, and USA on vacations and always had an opportunity and an open door to minister to people. We could tell over testimonies and prayed for people. We went to Mauritius four times and Willie went to Zimbabwe once and those five times we went specifically on mission trips. In Mauritius we went to a church and in Zimbabwe Willie went to a tent Ministry.

November 1st 1985 was our first trip to Mauritius. Our children went with us. Willie had the opportunity to preach. Pastors Mike and Janet Jansen were South Africans who started a church in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. Willie one time preached on the anchor. He drew an anchor on the black board and preached a about Jesus our Anchor. That made a big impression on the young

people and they asked that the drawing should stay on the black board as they came back with friends and explained to them what the drawing stranded for. April 18th 1986 we went on our second mission trip to Mauritius and that time we stayed nearly a mouth as Pastors Mike and Janet went to South Africa for a well deserved holiday. We stayed in their home and took care of the church in their absence. Willie preached, I had meetings with the women.

We took non perishable food such as packets of soup for the children as we did not know if they would like the foreign food. One of the young men of the church stayed with us to translate as they speak French and

an other local language. He also prepared our meals for us. Within the first days young believers came to the pastor's home for lunch. What the young man told us was that when they accepted Jesus, they did not want to eat the food their mother's prepared and offer to their idols anymore. It was an unspoken rule that they would go to the church for lunch. Because we had the young people for lunch daily, we run out of food. We later used "the children's soup packets" until only one was left.

The day we run out of food, a member of the church came with a bowl of fish balls. The young man explained to us that they take fish mix with herbs and spices and then make little balls which they boil in water. Then they use that in salads or soup. I counted the fish balls and there were twelve. The young man took the fish balls, the last soup packet and a cabbage as that were all we had in the home and he make soup.

As normal around lunch time people arrived for lunch. That day we were twelve people. I thought, great there would be enough fish balls, one for each in the soup. Willie prayed over the food and the young man dished up. I saw the first plate had three fish balls and I thought that two people would not get fish balls. Then the second plate had two. In the end all twelve people had fish balls, at least two, some three in their soup. Willie and two others had a second plate of soup and again they had fish balls. After the people left, there was enough soup for the five of us, Willie myself, our two daughters and the young man for supper, and there were fish balls for all. Willie asked him when did the fish balls multiplied, and he said while he dished up. That was the first day we saw multiplication of food. God had provided for us and we had food every day for ourselves and the young people that came every day.

July 23rd 1988 and May 14th 1991 we went back to Mauritius for mission trips. All four times it was very challenging times as the culture and the way of living of those people were totally different than we were used to but it was the most blessed times to see all the miracles we saw and the way God used us as he sent us to Mauritius.

May 30th 1990 Willie went with Pastor Mike to Zimbabwe on a mission trip. Pastor Heinrich Wieland had a tent Ministry close to Bulowayo. The following is recollection of what happened. In Zimbabwe we saw some wrecks still of the war on the side of the roads. We first met a pastor who had a baptism site. This was the first part of his church. His church was under a big tree at that stage but he baptised some people already.

We then went to Masvinga. This was in the east. We gave our testimonies the evening and afterwards eight freedom fighters steps forward to accept the Lord as their savoir. The next morning they were there at the place where we stayed and wanted us to baptise them. There was a pool close by and we got permission to baptise them in the pool. I baptise these eight in the pool.

We then drove of a place close to Bulowayo. We ministered and told our testimonies and some accepted the Lord. There were also four blind young boys who accepted the Lord. They wanted to be baptized and I baptized them in a stream close by. When they came out of the water, they started to pray in tongues. It was the most blessed experience Willie had.
We then arrived at Pastor Heinrich Wieland’s tent. He normally stayed a week or longer at a place and then move on. Pastor Heinrich spoke in English and he had translators with him and many came forward to accept Jesus. Many throw some stuff in a big drum. Many were set free. I asked some of Pastor Heinrich’s ushers about this and they said that some people and also witchdoctors that threw their stuff in the bin to be burned. Every afternoon they burn these things.

We give honour and glory to God that He found us worthy to use us in the way He did. Praise God for His mercy and grace.
